Centuries passed, and because of social instability, conditions for Iranian
children grew worse. The turning point came in the late-19th century and
early-20th century, when new factors emerged. These include: new educational
concepts, the development of a more simple Persian prose, the advent of
translations from the West, the start of the printing industry in Iran, the
founding of new schools, the study of child psychology and the appearance of
pioneer writers, illustrators and translators of children’s books.

It is clear that during the early and mid-1960s Iranian society
began to place more value on children, their education, health
and rights, and organizations like the Children’s Book Council
of Iran and the Institute for the Intellectual Development of
Children and Young People of Iran were established.
These
changes forced society to understand that the healthy
development of children’s minds, imagination and creativity are
among their basic rights.
